The Big Picture - Is your head in the sand?

We love this place, we love to ski here. We all need to do our part to reduce fire fuels.

  • "we have insurance" - yes we do - some of our neighbours do not - a replacement cabin takes time, and will not be the same if surrounded by a blackened landscape.
  • Some owners rarely check their cabins in the off season, some have very heavy fuel loads of pine needles and dead trees.
  • We have a major project about to start with a FESBC grant - reducing the fuel load on crown land adjacent to our community. Doug MacLeod was appointed by strata to address what could be done to protect us from wildfire - his work initiated the process of BMR applying for and getting the FESBC grant.
  • We have a Firesmart grant, and a local volunteer board to move the project forward - educating the community on reducing fire risk within the village.
  • There is so much we can learn, and so much we can do, to better protect our properties from fire.
  • Unfortunately those who have the properties with the most fuel load likely do not read the blog.
  • As the Firesmart work moves forward, there will be info sent to all owners . Firesmart board volunteers include strata directors, current and former fire department leaders.
