The History of the Burn Pile

As part of Borderline Ski Club, I was involved in setting up the first burn pile more than 30 years ago. We had concerns about the number of owners burning debris on their properties. The original site was at the edge of the parking lot - it was easy to police, and people like George Webster cut their firewood from the pile, so there wasn't much left to burn in the fall.

"The Witch" is not longer with us, and she did not publish "The Chronicles of Mt. Hairy", so I don't have a reference to check on the timing of the famous fly by on Ore-House Road. The Witch was still living at the coast, and was here cleaning up her property -  burning debris at the edge of the road - in August. I don't remember if it was a helicopter or fixed wing, but she was "buzzed" by an aircraft checking out the smoke. She got the message.

If anyone wants some free small diameter firewood, there is some at the burn pile today.
