Baldy Babes

Hello Baldy Babes,

Today's snowshoe led us to the famous Stripper Pole. Temperatures were chilly but the sunshine and climbing uphill from the Lodge warmed us up. After a few stops to remove some layers we headed into the trees.

As you can see, today was perfect for taking photographs.

Thank you Mindy & Chloe for your extra special attention and care.

Looking forward to seeing your smiling faces next Monday. If you didn't sign up today, be sure you make your reservation by Wednesday to Mindy. Mindy.ward@icloud.com or Baldy Babes Group on Facebook.

Take Care, Marian

Monday turns

Two hours and twenty minutes on the hill, great groomers, not that many people. The forecast and other numbers thrown around were much colder than it was. It was minus10C when I went out, and minus10C now. The real feel did fluctuate with the sun.

Thursday

Some nice turns today, spring like snow on the Lump, and winter snow, on the edge of spring snow on the Eagle. Some gusty winds. It stayed mild through the day, and there were more trees unloading, and roof chunks letting go.

Trees Unloaded

Warmer weather has unloaded trees in the village.

Good on you BMR Management

Today is staff day at Baldy, and those friendly people who work hard while we enjoy the hill, are getting a chance for a few runs themselves. We are happy for you! Good for you Brandan and team.

Baldy staff day 2012 wasn't so lucky with the visibility.

January 24 - mid-day update

Warmed up to just below zero - more snow is shedding off the trees.

Baldy Babes

Hello Baldy Babes,

A picture perfect Monday for our second Baldy Babes snowshoe of 2023. Cheryl led us down the Wapiti Trails through the cross country ski area and up through the FES area. We hiked back to the Lodge for a delicious Taco Salad lunch, glass of wine and dessert bars.

A stunning day for taking photographs, sharing stories, laughing, and enjoying each others company.

Thank You Chloe for taking extra special care, Mindy will be proud.

If you didn't sign up today for next week's snowshoe, please email Mindy by Wednesday morning at Mindy.ward@icloud.com or on the Baldy Babes Facebook page.

Looking forward to seeing your smiling faces next Monday.

Take care, Marian

P.S. Happy Birthday Marion & Marie.

I'm not sure if I should post this - I don't want to steer any Baldy staff away, but there may some of my readers who may be interested. From Penticton Western News

Penticton construction company teams up with OK College to offer carpentry program

30-week carpenter foundation program will allow students to work on Greyback construction site

Okanagan College is teaming up with Greyback Construction to provide training on a Penticton construction site.

The 30-week Carpenter Foundation program starts in Penticton on Jan. 30 and it’s not too late to apply. Practicum partner Greyback Construction will be inviting this class on-site to participate in a residential building project. During the program, students will learn under the direction of an Okanagan College instructor while working alongside members of the Greyback Construction team to gain real-life experience on a construction site.

This program introduces students to all aspects of the trade including the use of hand tools, portable power tools and other equipment used by carpenters. While working with an industry partner on a residential wood frame project, students are given the opportunity to work with a variety of materials including lumber, panel products, concrete, fasteners and hardware.

Upon successful completion, graduates of this program will receive technical training credits Level 1 and work hours towards their apprenticeship. After gaining experience in the industry, they can return as apprentices for the Level 2 Apprenticeship program.

The sun helped, a little........

Many trees on the hill have shed some snow. More sun please mother nature. Fred and Ethel's tree still has snow up top, but looks pretty solid.

Chicken Coop Lane

Thanks to the volunteers who cleared the lane. You can avoid this area by proceeding a little farther along the run, and taking the sometimes groomed trail that goes along the uphill side of the top cabin on the ski run.

Volunteers, management step in to keep key race going up to Apex Mountain during outage - Penticton News

Volunteers, management step in to keep key race going up to Apex Mountain during outage - Penticton News: Last weekend the Apex Ski Club hosted the Okanagan Zone Race and is now celebrating its six team members that have qualified for the BC Winter Games.

It comes up often - there is no charge for a Search and Rescue

Search and Rescue teams know that time is of the essence for the best outcome for the lost or injured. There is no charge for their services. They don't want a potential fee to discourage those in need from calling for help as soon as possible.

The SAR personnel are all volunteers. Check out the local team website:  https://www.oosar.ca/

These volunteers do more than search and rescue. SAR volunteers assist local authorities on other things like serving evacuation orders.

Next time your ride a chair with Kyle, Tanja, or Colleen, ask them what you or your business can do to support oosar.

The 25 Principles for Adult Behavior: John Perry Barlow (R.I.P.) Creates a List of Wise Rules to Live By

1. Be patient. No matter what.
2. Don’t badmouth: Assign responsibility, not blame. Say nothing of another you wouldn’t say to him.
3. Never assume the motives of others are, to them, less noble than yours are to you.
4. Expand your sense of the possible.
5. Don’t trouble yourself with matters you truly cannot change.
6. Expect no more of anyone than you can deliver yourself.
7. Tolerate ambiguity.
8. Laugh at yourself frequently.
9. Concern yourself with what is right rather than who is right.
10. Never forget that, no matter how certain, you might be wrong.
11. Give up blood sports.
12. Remember that your life belongs to others as well. Don’t risk it frivolously.
13. Never lie to anyone for any reason. (Lies of omission are sometimes exempt.)
14. Learn the needs of those around you and respect them.
15. Avoid the pursuit of happiness. Seek to define your mission and pursue that.
16. Reduce your use of the first personal pronoun.
17. Praise at least as often as you disparage.
18. Admit your errors freely and soon.
19. Become less suspicious of joy.
20. Understand humility.
21. Remember that love forgives everything.
22. Foster dignity.
23. Live memorably.
24. Love yourself.
25. Endure.

Rest in Peace, Silvia Albrecht

"It's with heartfelt sorrow that I want to let everyone know that Silvia passed away peacefully at Oliver General Hospital yesterday at 5:30pm.

I want to let everyone know that Silvia heard, looked at and acknowledged all the messages that were posted on the last Facebook post. If you have any pictures, please feel free to post on here.
I am planning to host a celebration of life in the Spring once the weather and travel is safer. I will keep everyone posted once I have a firm date.
I appreciate all the support and well wishes that I have received from everyone.
Fritz"
Silvia was the Ticket Office Supervisor at Baldy for several years. She came to us with experience from Sunshine Village, and worked while she and Fritz built up their business and home, Baergnaescht Bed & Breakfast

Silvia had a couple of strokes just over a month ago, and passed away yesterday in the Oliver hospital. I regret not stopping by to squeeze her hand and talk to her. She could not talk, but read every message of encouragement on the post Fritz put on her Facebook page.

Silvia had a sleep over at my place a time or two. It was important to her that opening day would go smoothly. I would recognize the people as they came through the door, and pull their file to help her streamline the pass process.

With the ticket office just inside the front door, everyone knew her.

I know I have many more photos - will be looking for them for Fritz.

Sun!

It is early, and minus7C, but already I can see that some of my neighbour's trees are starting to shed some snow load.

Power Outage on Porcupine

Tree on the line between 165 and 175 Porcupine.  I am running on my camping power supply, but will switch it to TV at 7:00 for the hockey game. The light I saw on Blue Jay was trees illuminated by snow removal equipment - they are in the dark.

Thanks Fortis - just in time for puck drop.
