The Firesmart Board met this morning with guest Doug MacLeod. With the water falling from the sky this morning, and the coming days, we have the go ahead from our FS Assessor to start moving firewood back under our decks. Today our fire danger rating is back down to a "2".
Newsletter to come in a couple of weeks.
For tree removal, some owners have been paying $400 per tree, another owner paid $100 per hour. We had an update this morning from the contractor who has been working with us on a plan to mechanically harvest trees and have the timber value cover some of the cost. Timber prices are dropping , and mills are only guaranteeing prices for short terms. Planning will continue, but this will likely be deferred until spring when hopefully the prices will be better.
Our August site visit with the contractor was interesting as he showed us his vision for 20 of the properties. Trees that owners had marked could be left, and some unmarked trees should go. He factored in Firesmart, diversity of species, stand support, wind direction etc
To date, we have had owners of 24 properties express interest in this option. Some of these owners have told us that their neighbours are also interested, but are not on our list.
If you would like to be added to the list of interested owners, please contact Sam and Rod.
