Below you will see the awarding of FireSmart funding to the Silver Star Property Owners Association. Apex also received funding in the last couple of years - not sure if it was through their community association or their Fire Brigade Society, but definitely not through the resort. I have not called my Apex contacts recently, as they have had enough on their plates this summer.
Programs up until recently have been mostly for Crown Land. We have been advised that if we formed a non-profit community association (which we had at one time), there would be more programs that we could apply/qualify for.
This has been discussed by the FireSmart Board - a community association could include all property owners, and not just Strata Corporation members. A board member has been looking into this with our Regional District Area Rep.
FESBC funding covered the clean-up of the fuel modification project adjacent to the village. Red Mountain is on the site having received FESBC money for fibre recovery and removal of material in gladed area of the ski hill.
Vaagen has advised us that there are plans for tree spacing beyond the Controlled Recreation Area in the coming years.
There are opportunities for our community, the ski area and beyond. The FireSmart Board is effectively stalled at this time.
To date, a FS grant of about $10,000 was received several years ago, resulting in the 2019 report which is a requirement to have for most applications.
A FS grant of $500 was received to fund the awareness weekend last May.
The 2010 Fred Marshall report used to be on the Powerstrata website - I took a quick look and didn't find it - if anyone wants a copy of the 2010 or 2019 report, I can send them to you.
