Rest in Peace Paul Dumoret

It's on Facebook now, so I guess it is OK to post. The Dumoret family came into my life more than 40 years ago - of course at Baldy. I took a day off work to ski powder, and was pulled from the Baldy Tee lift line because the mid-week instructors were busy with school groups, and there was this new family, and the boys needed lessons.

They are like family to me, and my heart aches for Joan, Randy & Heather, Dale & Nadine, and Paul's sister Marilyn. Many cousins grieving too.

When the original owners of Baldy were in the process of selling, a purchaser defaulted, things were tied up in court, and we missed a season - (mid-eighties). Paul put together the plan and led the team to resurrect the Borderline Ski Club, and made the deal with the original owners to have the club run the hill. The club operated the ski area for 6 years. Three years with Ken Ozanne as Manager, and three years with me as manager. When the strata purchased the ski area, the work that Paul and the Borderline Ski Club had done was  - for lack of a better word - dismissed. Paul and Joan provided me with a place to live in the valley. Paul did not get the recognition he deserved.

Here is Dale's post from today:

Paul Dumoret was a survivor by every definition of the word. He survived a plane crash that most would not have survived. He survived countless near death experiences. He was a military man, a cowboy, a rancher, a farmer, a pilot, a pirate, a Jack of all trades. If you have ever heard his thunderous laugh it’ll echo in your memory for all time.
But there was one last battle he could not win. Dad passed away on Monday June 26th. One day shy of mom and dads 53rd anniversary.
We are planning a celebration of his life on September 9th at the Oliver airport. All who have been affected by his life are welcome to attend.
Details to follow.

Thanks to the Windover/Worth families for making the former Dumoret cabin available for this memorable Christmas.
