Community, Baldy long timers.............

Hospes

It's not every day that one has the opportunity to ski a run with an 88 year old and a 2 year old in the same day, both from long time Baldy families.

I skied Dividend with Wendy, and continue to marvel at her technique and smooth skiing down Dividend, with some of the early morning snow on top of the corduroy.

Hulton

First day of skiing for this delightful 2 year old. She had 4 runs on the carpet with Dad. Her great grandfather was one of the founders of Baldy, and Hulton's Hollow is named in honour of Jack Hulton.

Her great-great grandparents moved from Manitoba to Osoyoos, and established an orchard near the head of the lake. When Henry Hulton subdivided lake front property off the acreage, he wanted to make sure he had good neighbours, and prospective purchasers were screened. My parents passed the test, and we grew up in a lake front home, just along the street.

Henry brought asparagus seed with him from Manitoba, and we benefitted from asparagus that re-seeded itself along the railroad tracks.

Christie

I didn't take a photo, but it was great to see Paul back on skis after many years. He reminded me that I taught his kids how to ski, and filled me in on the rotation of families and generations that have made good use of the Christie cabin this winter.

I remember meeting Paul's parents once - they were driving up from Penticton on a spring day and got stuck in a mud hole on the way up. As ski area manager back in the day, I did everything including going down the hill and pulling Christie's senior out of the mud with my old red Nissan.
