"Pot holing" I love the terminology

One of the snowshoe guides posted a warning yesterday - the trails may look like you could walk on them in boots, but take your snowshoes, or you will be "pot holing."

The term is actually “post holing.” It’s often considered bad manners for hikers to post hole on a snowshoe or XC ski trail since the holes can create tripping hazards.

I know what you are referring too - a trail walker posted the different term for what was a different effect. post holing to me is when you leave boot holes. The pot holing term seemed to fit well with what was happening. One would step on the crust, it would break in a rather large circle, then the boot may or may not break through the fractured crust.
