It is with great sadness that I share with you the recent passing of Jason Parker. Our thoughts are with his family, and his Baldy family friends. He owned and operated a forestry consulting company just down the road. He was a daily reader of this blog, and I knew if I mis-labelled a wildlife foot print, or posted a wildlife photo with an identifiable background, I would hear from Jason. In his quiet way he helped with many things Baldy - including searches, stocking up firewood at the hut, and working on the 2021 fire.
My last connection with Jason was this fall when he saw the video I posted of the low bed truck that clipped my truck in the canyon. He sent the video to the safety officer for the company involved, initiated discussion of how to improve their procedures, and offered to set up a call with the safety officer for me.
If you didn't know Jason, and have been around for 10ish years, his son Wyatt may have loaded you on the chair in his high school years.

Jason Richard Parker
August 30, 1973 - January 26, 2026
It is with deep sorrow we announce the unexpected passing of Jason Richard Parker on January 26, 2026. A Husband, Father, Son, Brother, and Friend.
Jason is survived by his Wife Bianca Craig, Daughter Emily Parker, Son Wyatt Parker, Father Richard Parker, Mother Donna Murfitt, and Brother Chad Parker. Along with numerous other family members.
Jason was raised in Oliver, BC where his love of the outdoors began. As a child, he joined the Scouts and went on to Air-cadets, honing his skills as an outdoorsman at a young age. Jason was an entrepreneur at heart. He studied forestry at Selkirk College and went on to operate a successful forestry consulting business, Sidley Mountain Forestry Consultants Ltd, for over 25 years. He was always enjoying outdoor activities with friends and family, regardless of the season – snowmobiling and snowshoeing in the winter. Camping, hunting, quadding, fishing, visiting historic sites and more during the spring, summer, and fall. He participated in trap shooting, black powder shoots and logger games, in which he won many awards. He loved observing wildlife, especially Moose and Chickadees. He would visit Vancouver Island annually for salmon fishing. Most recently, his hobby was making delicious gourmet sausages using the wild game he acquired from his hunts. Jason was generous and shared with others. The outdoors was Jason’s favorite place to be. His children, Emily, and Wyatt grew up enjoying the various family outdoor activities and have a profound appreciation for nature.
Above all, Jason knew how to enjoy life. He had a sharp sense of humor, an easy laugh, and a genuine love of a good time. Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day, unseen, unheard, but always near, and still loved, still missed and very dear. Jason is forever in our hearts and memories. Jason will be greatly missed by many and remembered as a hardworking man who was always willing to help others, who provided for and protected the ones he loved.
A celebration of life will be held for family and friends in the future.
