Drought conditions declared for Osoyoos Lake

I was raised lakefront in Osoyoos, and the family owned the property until around 2001. In my memory, the primary concern was high water levels.

There is an International Agreement attached to the "Zosel" dam across the border, that controls the outflow of Osoyoos Lake. We have had years when Okanagan Lake has discharged high volumes, the Zosel has held water back, and Osoyoos Lake continues to rise.

This year, the lake levels are lower than they have been in 40 years.

Great to have moisture falling today, but it is not enough to compensate for the low snowpack.
