China Creek Down Again

The China Creek summit installation went down again last night due to power issues. Technicians with sleds are coming up today. I didn't get the e-mail from the webcrew last night, as I am just about out of data. Thanks to Cheryl and Wayne for the password and parking spot to access their Telus smart hub.

It is cold and cloudy. The forecast amount of snow for tonight is less than the previous guesstimate, but it should be great skiing for Good Friday. The Eagle was test run yesterday to confirm that it is unaffected by the power issue - I didn't contact MMT, but I am not sure about electric heat in the patrol hut.

I think it was 1973 when Baldy got power, with Terry cutting the right of way, as part of the project to get power to the summit for CNCP Telecommunications, when they installed a cross Canada link of microwave towers. The armoured cable leaves the village at the end of Whiskey Jack, heads over to the Eagle lift line, then straight up to the summit. In the summer, parts of the cable can be seen where it is anchored to bedrock.

Power arrived fall of 73, one of my first jobs was working with Terry on clearing the line up from the main on McKinney flats. Once we were confident in the power supply we changed over the t-bar drive to
electric, finishing late on Xmas eve, Rod MacLeod
