Update from BC Wildfire

The BC Wildfire Service continues to respond to the Crater Creek wildfire (K52125) and the Gillanders Creek wildfire (K51680), both which are located southwest of Keremeos.
The Crater Creek wildfire is estimated to be 697 hectares and the Gillanders Creek wildfire is estimated to be 480 hectares in size. These fires are burning in steep and dangerous terrain, challenging response efforts and posing a significant risk to responder safety on the ground.
Based on current and forecast weather conditions for this week, the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen has issued an Evacuation Alert within the vicinity of these two fires as a precautionary measure.
For updates on the status of this Evacuation Alert, please visit the RDOS and BC Parks websites: https://www.rdos.bc.ca/ https://bcparks.ca/active-advisories/
Responder safety remains the top priority of the BC Wildfire Service. Due to the hazard posed by the very steep terrain at this location, crews assigned to this fire are working only where it is safe to do so, and a Modified Response approach will be taken. Modified Response involves assessing the potential for a fire to impact values and suppressing the fire only where necessary to protect those values and where it is safe for crews to access.
Yesterday, 10 personnel were onsite at the Crater Creek wildfire supported by three helicopters working the north flank of the fire. Today heavy equipment are on site with two helicopters who are completing bucketing action. BC Wildfire Service personnel will continue to monitor both fires.
