South Okanagan General Hospital to close ER Tuesday night as doctor shortage continues - Oliver/Osoyoos News
Shopping Local
There are many of us at Baldy with foot issues - we are skiing comfortably with a custom boot fit at Stay Tuned Sports in Kelowna. I would absolutely recommend them for your boot fitting.
Sessions in Osoyoos have gone all out stocking and servicing gear for many sports. Check them out for ski/snowboard gear, tuning, waxing etc.

I had a look at the BMR merch in the ticket office today. They have some great stuff, and I love the items that have the retro original Baldy logo. Like everything else these days, the prices are a little high for this senior citizen. We do however get a 10% discount as season pass holders.
The office is open 7 days a week, 9:00am to 4:00pm, closed November 11th.
Sunny day with wind gusts, after 15cms new last night
Weather Update
The day started with sunshine. One minute it is calm, then suddenly there will be really strong wind gusts. Nothing like what our friends at the coast have experienced, but I am in no hurry to go outside. My sense is that as soon as I gear up and start the snow blower, the wind will blow again.
Single lane on Hwy 33 near Beaverdell - tree took down the power line.
So many trees have snapped down in the burn on McKinney Road - another larch a few days ago. I'll continue to carry a saw and a tow strap with me for the foreseeable future.

Snow coming down at 7:45pm
I bought an extra camera after our issues up here before the summer. I haven't decided where to mount it - on the deck doesn't work anymore - I accidently shoveled it over the edge the other day.
Just turned off my cell phone - the falling snow keeps tripping the motion sensor.
Sroamies
I didn't go anywhere today, but there were guests on the mountain from Selkirk College. The annual "Sroamie" Tour. There is a cool photo on their Instagram page of one of the students in the drive station at the bottom of Sugar.

Snow base in my yard
I dug around and found my snow base measuring pipe in the side yard, and planted it. The settled base at my place is 30cms.
Indoor Herbs
If you walk by my place in the evening, you will see grow lights on, long after I have gone to bed. I grow lettuce and herbs indoors, except for the hottest part of the summer. I have two aerogarden hydroponic units.
Some of the grocery stores are stocking basil plants now. If you want to try and have fresh basil all winter, Lee Valley has the single pot grow light available again. Not sure if it is the same model that they had before, but it works for my friends up here.
Rosie on the trail
I tried to call the red dog family and suggest they not come up Friday because of all the snow. They were on their way when I called. Snow shoeing was great yesterday. Bonus for me, pizza night, and lasagna last night - made with the legendary "Grandpa Tomato" sauce.

Shoveling? Snow blowing?
I have a young friend who would be able to come up for a day this week, to do some shoveling, and or operate your snow blower. He'll need a few jobs to cover his cost of coming up, but he has worked for me before, and does a good job.
E-mail me at unbaldy@gmail.com or my personal e-mail, and I will connect you.
A foot is a foot!
It is still snowing, and I have now shoveled a settled foot off my deck measuring spot. I can't comment on the main roads, as I am not planning on going anywhere today. There have been a couple of passes on Porcupine in front of my place.
Under the tarp - the snowblower will get it's first workout of the season. Annual service at Gerard's for a very reasonable price, and I brought it home Monday, just in time.

Emergency room closing overnight Friday at South Okanagan General Hospital - Oliver/Osoyoos News
Take your time....
Road is white from Baldy to about 21k, then slushy to about 18k. Canyon was 0c and "greasy"
Snowing
November 1st - 8 cms from yesterday am, 8 more overnight, and it is snowing. Forecast to continue all day and overnight.
If you plan on coming up for the weekend, I hope you have boots with you..........and remember that after you have been shoveling most of Saturday, you get to sleep in an extra hour Sunday.
Village roads are being cleared now.
