These are solar powered necklaces for cattle - the virtual fence is programmed on Dave's phone.
He has tried some, and they work well. His second batch arrived, and there is no sun in the valley today. He brought them up here to charge them. They look big, but weigh about 5 pounds, and the 1000lb cows are fine wearing them.
We also had an interesting conversation about forest practices and tree density. He has access to old photographs of the general area, and they show forests that are far less dense.
