Clean up of Slash piles
Thank-you S H for shovelling the edges of the fire by the Baldy Road, and calling me about it. I don't travel that route enough to know when that slash pile was originally ignited.
edit
The OIB forestry team lit some old slash piles, and have been checking them, including last night.

Storm from last 36 ish hours settled to 15cms of heavy wet snow
Next round of snow expected starting Sunday evening.
Transition Industries has hand built features at Moose Mountain for an event today- using the limited snow they have. The more snow we have when TN arrives here, the bigger the smile he will have.

Happy to wake up to snow!
The drive back from town yesterday was awful - hard to see the edge of the road in places. I don't have a curtain on my loft window so I can see if it is snowing without lifting my head. Happy to see the snow this morning.
With the launch of the new BMR website, and so much information on one page, I am expecting fewer phone calls. I will update the weather daily, and when it is snowing big time in the evening, I will post that.
I took on the blog almost 16 years ago when the community wanted more timely information, and the manager of the day did not have the resources/funds to provide that.
The younger folks are all about Facebook. Personally, I am not a fan of Facebook - people post things that they have not researched, or would not say if they were looking the person in the eye. I am not the journalist in the family, but I do endeavor to get timely, accurate information posted.
There are times when I wonder why I am still doing this - when people ask me for information that is already on the blog.
I have a core group of followers who are not on Facebook, and/or rely on this source to know what is happening on the mountain when they are living or travelling far from here.

Update from Josh Shulman on FB
Hey Baldy,
Are you subscribed?
New issue of the Baldy newsletter out this morning. As the old saying goes, the crew has been "standing on their heads" to get ready for the season. Rest assured, the Kubota is right side up.

Stunning Northern Lights
If you are on Facebook, head on over to the The Pink Palace page to see Rob's amazing photos. I couldn't see them from my decks - probably waited too long to drive away from the neighbourhood lights.

Farming Snow
"Farming Snow" is not something new to me. It used to be pushing snow with a cat from one area to another. The current management team has been more creative, and snow is "farmed" from the pre-season parking lot. Low spots in the base area, and the path leading to the Sugar Lump gates are filled in quite effectively with the new loader, and an operator who loves operating the new machine.

"Pot holing" I love the terminology
One of the snowshoe guides posted a warning yesterday - the trails may look like you could walk on them in boots, but take your snowshoes, or you will be "pot holing."

Sunny, but not fun
I have one knee that objects to fall activities. Walking on side hill, moving wood etc. It flared up this morning with the one inch crust on top of the new snow. My feet kept breaking through the crust and jamming the bad knee. I am not positive that a tree is the root cause, but when we were kids, skiing the north side - before runs, before glading, my right knee struck a tree.
We had an
unusual weather event – warm yesterday afternoon, strata road ice/snow
were breaking up. We had a bunch of wet snow, then the temperature dropped at
night, leaving a thick (one inch?) crust on top.
Village roads have not been cleared. I haven't heard if YRB has been up. When I came home late yesterday afternoon, the snow started between the junction and the parking lot.
It is a sunny day, but my truck is not leaving the driveway, as I don't know if I will have trouble getting back.
Craft Fairs
A woman from OK Falls has taken the time to compile a list of all the craft fairs in the region this season. I thank her for this, but am not including her name. Our only connection was during a period of time when I connected the dots as part of locating her stolen property.
There are several Fall/Christmas markets in our area so I thought I would write a list from the postings I've seen and share it with everyone....

Follow up on being clipped by a lowbed....
When the truck came to a stop, we were within shouting distance. Once I determined that the foldaway truck mirror was not damaged, I continued on my way. If we had left our vehicles sitting where they were to exchange information, we could have caused more trouble if another vehicle had come around the corner. I had a busy week and didn't take the time to follow up.
A businessman from this area, and regular blog reader, took the time to forward my video to the company connected to the lowbed. As a result, the company has initiated a review of the video, and how they may adjust the way they do things.
I didn't call him, but appreciate what this fellow did on my behalf. He cares about the safety of others. He has volunteered local knowledge and equipment to searches in this area, and also put in long hours fighting the 2021 fire.
Thank-you J
