Two Chapparal Homes have been set up in Oliver to provide housing for Doctors. It is hoped that this will attract more out of town Doctors to cover shifts at the ER at SOGH.
I think the project is a great idea. "Eastside" Housing however stirs up the street naming issue I was unable to get consideration for when the Town last updated Street names.
Sunnybank, Sunningdale Estates, and the Doctor's housing all sit on what was my grandparent's orchard. The road along the southside was called "Fairweather Lane."
There was backlash from the community when many historical road names were removed. Some streets got two signs - the new 911 system, with the historical name underneath.
I made my case to the Council of the day, and it was dismissed.
My grandparents Victor and Beret Fairweather came to Oliver in 1921. They owned and operated the 11 acre orchard, and Oliver Hardware. They extended credit to people just getting started on local farms. Grandpa partnered with his brother Harry and others in the Oliver Sawmill.
Grandpa was one of the locals who was part of getting the first firehaul built in Oliver. My grandparents and other family members were part of the establishment of the Fairview Golf Course. Grandma and another lady hosted a tea to fundraise for the rock fireplace that was part of the original clubhouse.
So there is my rant of the day - it will always be Fairweather Lane to me.
