Backcountry, give your head a shake

Avalanche fatalities are almost daily right now, skiers, riders and sleds.

As we approach the 20th Anniversary of a tragic loss, here is my annual avalanche reminder.

Patrick Reiter was part of this community, and skied here the weekend before he died. It was a beautiful day on Mt. McBride. A group had stayed at the cabin that day because of the avalanche risk. Pat was equipped and well versed in avalanche awareness. For some reason, he went out later in the day with friends.

The memory is as raw as the shock 20 years ago when Sherry showed up at my door to tell me.

Pat's friends don't need a blog post to remind them - I just post this annually in the faint hope that it might cause one backcountry enthusiast to make better decisions.

It's March - Spring Passes available and usable now

If you didn't buy a seasons pass this year, you can ski the rest of the season with a spring pass.

Live music this afternoon.
